St. Patrick's Day Activities For Kids At Home
St. Patrick's Day is a great holiday for kids at home because everything about it is playful. Green food, lucky charms and a rainbow of crafts make it easy to turn an ordinary afternoon into a party. You do not need a lot of supplies. Here is how to plan a day or a week of St. Patrick's activities that your kids will ask to repeat.
Pick a theme for the day
Choose a simple theme: luck, rainbows, shamrocks or green. A theme keeps your plan tidy. If you pick luck, you can build games, snacks and crafts around it.
Start with a green scavenger hunt
Write a list of green things for kids to find around the house and yard: a leaf, a toy, a crayon, a sock. Give each child a bag. First to find everything on the list gets to choose the afternoon snack. It takes five minutes to set up and fills a surprising amount of time.
Make a few simple crafts
Paper shamrocks, rainbow collages and paper plate pots of gold all use supplies you probably have. Set out paper, glue and markers on a table and let kids make what they like. Hang the results in a window so the whole house feels festive.
Cook something green
Pancakes with green food coloring, a fruit salad, or a green smoothie are easy wins. Let kids stir and pour. The food does not have to be fancy to feel like a celebration.
Play lucky games
Try a beanbag toss into a bucket, a rainbow bingo game or a coin hunt in the yard. Short, silly games work better than long ones, especially with younger kids.
Keep a quiet option ready
Not every kid wants to run around. Coloring pages, word searches and mazes give everyone a quiet place to land, so keep a few ready.
A sample St. Patrick's week
- Monday: Color St. Patrick's pages.
- Tuesday: Make shamrock crafts.
- Wednesday: Green scavenger hunt.
- Thursday: Bake or cook something green.
- Friday: Rainbow bingo and a family movie.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Overplanning. One game, one craft and one snack is a full day.
- Buying new supplies. Use construction paper, crayons and what you have.
- Making the schedule too tight. Let kids spend more time on the activity they love.
- Forgetting cleanup. Put a basket out for craft scraps so the party ends gracefully.
Pull it together
If you would like the plan, the cards and the activities printed and ready, the St Patrick's Day Family Bundle includes a family fun planner, activity cards and a kids activity pack in one set.
